UK F-Gas Regulation requires HVAC contractors to maintain a refrigerant log for every system containing 5 tonnes CO2 equivalent or more, recording every charge, recovery, and leak check result, and to keep those records for at least five years.

REFCOM is the UK industry register for companies certified to handle F-Gas refrigerants; contractors must hold F-Gas company certification (which REFCOM issues) before their engineers can legally charge, recover, or carry out leak checks on any system containing fluorinated gases above the regulatory threshold.

Engineers handling F-Gas refrigerants in the UK must hold a personal F-Gas competence certificate issued by a UKAS-accredited body; the category of certificate required depends on the type of equipment and the size of the system.
